The plans by architect Jacobs for a new municipal boys’ school on the Zaventemsesteenweg were approved on 5 February 1920. The contractor was Karel Raymaekers of Leuven; the building rests on 62 concrete wells. The school opened after the Easter holidays of 1926; the total cost was 1,426,144.24 francs.
In 1950 the school had 94 boys and 85 girls, besides the infants. A nursery class (1959), evening study (1960), new pavilions (around 1965) and a toddler group (1965) followed. The ‘Friends of the Diegem Municipal School’ were founded on 18 August 1959; the sports club followed in 1964. Since the merger the school has been called ‘Gemeenteschool Diegem’.
