Beaulieu Castle

Baroque castle by Lucas Faid'herbe (1653-1654), known for its ceiling panels of the Labours of Hercules. William III of England had his headquarters here in 1693.

Another protected monument is the Baroque castle of Beaulieu, built in 1653–1654 on the foundations of the former stronghold by Lucas Faid'herbe, in Louis XIII style. The castle is known, among other things, for its 17th-century ceiling panels depicting the labours of Hercules. The façade is decorated with Doric columns and Baroque motifs. The castle was built for Count L.C. of Thurn and Taxis, the 7th hereditary Grand Master of the Imperial Postal Service, whose tomb is in the Church of Our Lady of the Sablon in Brussels. In 1693, during the war against Louis XIV, William III of England set up his headquarters there. The Flemish government has leased the castle on a long-term basis to a private developer, who is currently restoring it.
